Why we suggest donating to these organizations

Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House is such a blessing to so many families. I was amazed at how expensive everything is in Chicago. Between food, lodging and parking, the extra expenses of being away from home accumulate quickly and can overwhelm a person. There was a waiting list to get into RMH, but we were actually given a room just a few days after arriving in Chicago.

We were so thankful to have most lunches and dinners provided. The food was so delicious! One of our favorite nights was the St. Patrick's Day party provided by the Chicago Bulls. There are activities several times a week that keep family members busy. These activities offer a change from the hospital environment (especially important for our older kids during their visit) such as crafts for the kids, movies for the family and the use of the game room or the quiet library.

It gave us great peace of mind to be so close to the hospital while getting a good night's rest. We appreciate all of the hardworking volunteers and the donations that make a place like RMH possible.

The Organization for Understanding Congenital Hearts (T.O.U.C.H.)

This organization helps unite and educate our congenital heart families here in central Illinois. The first event I attended has made a lasting impact on my life. About a month before Leah was born, I took part in a symposium for the congenital heart families. I sat in a conference room and listened with rapt attention to several of the doctors that would care for our girl. We learned about the history of heart care and how the field is growing and improving today. Most importantly, I met some wonderful people that have become very dear friends. Each year this group hosts events that help heart families interact and find support from each other.
